ISVB was created from the collaboration of Bridge2AI-Voice and eVoiceNet—and from a conviction that voice can transform health only when science, standards, and people move forward together.
The idea behind ISVB
A promising field needed a permanent home.
Across medicine, speech science, engineering, artificial intelligence, ethics, and public health, researchers were discovering that the human voice carries meaningful information about health. Yet the field remained distributed across disciplines, institutions, and continents.
The International Society for Vocal Biomarkers was established in 2026 to bring those communities into one professional home—one capable of connecting discovery to validation, shared standards, responsible innovation, and clinical impact.

Building the data and research foundation
Supported by the NIH Common Fund’s Bridge2AI program, Bridge2AI-Voice brought together a multi-institutional team to create an ethically sourced, diverse, AI-ready voice dataset linked with clinical and multimodal health information.
Its work advanced shared data protocols, privacy-aware infrastructure, workforce development, and research across voice, neurological, mood, respiratory, and pediatric conditions—demonstrating what coordinated team science could make possible.
Europe · eVoiceNet
Connecting disciplines across Europe
eVoiceNet, COST Action CA24128, formed a multidisciplinary European network spanning clinicians, AI experts, voice scientists, privacy specialists, industry, policymakers, and patient organizations.
With an emphasis on standardization, reproducibility, open and responsible science, capacity building, and clinical translation, the network expanded both the geographic reach and collaborative ambition of the field.

Dr. Yael Bensoussan
University of South Florida
Dr. Yael Bensoussan is a physician-scientist whose work helped turn early questions about the voice as a health signal into a collaborative research community. At the University of South Florida, her work with the Institute for Voice and Hearing Innovation brings clinical care, research, technology development, and education together around a shared goal: improving human health through voice.
Through Bridge2AI-Voice, she helped convene clinicians, data scientists, engineers, and community partners to build an ethically sourced, diverse, AI-ready voice dataset linked with health information. The project’s emphasis on responsible data practices, shared methods, and clinical translation, together with the interdisciplinary foundation of the Institute for Voice and Hearing Innovation, helped inspire ISVB as a lasting global home for the field.

Dr. Guy Fagherazzi
Luxembourg Institute of Health
Dr. Guy Fagherazzi is a digital-health and public-health researcher whose work has helped connect epidemiology, artificial intelligence, and real-world health data across Europe. At the Luxembourg Institute of Health, he has advanced multidisciplinary approaches to understanding how voice and other digital signals can support research, prevention, and more personalized care.
Through eVoiceNet and its collaboration with Bridge2AI-Voice, he helped bring clinicians, voice scientists, AI experts, industry, policymakers, and patient communities into a broader international effort. That work strengthened the field’s focus on common language, reproducible methods, responsible science, and clinical impact and helped shape the shared vision for ISVB as a society able to carry this movement forward worldwide.

A common language became a common purpose.
Bridge2AI-Voice and eVoiceNet did more than operate in parallel. Their members collaborated through the international VOCAL Initiative to address a fundamental obstacle: inconsistent terminology across voice-based health research.
That work established shared definitions and showed the power of a transatlantic, multidisciplinary community working toward transparent, reproducible, clinically meaningful science. ISVB carries that collaborative spirit forward at a truly global scale.

ISVB unites researchers, clinicians, engineers, industry leaders, policymakers, and advocates to strengthen methods, improve validation, establish evidence-based standards, and responsibly translate discovery into better health.
